Dr. Amy LaValla bases her work on the knowledge that healing occurs holistically and this is an important pillar of her practice. Dr. LaValla earned her Doctorate in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Practice from the University of Minnesota and while in this program, she also earned a minor in Integrative Therapies. Her view of mental health as an integrated discipline that may require treatment with traditional and non-traditional approaches makes her a unique and specialized provider.

Passionate about caring for people and their mental health, Dr. LaValla has over twenty years of experience working in clinical behavioral health. She is driven by a holistic look at the mind, an interest in creative solutions, and enthusiasm for learning about and implementing advanced and innovative therapies in mental health. Her practice regularly incorporates new, alternative, and improved ways to provide care, including cutting edge treatments like ketamine therapy.

A cornerstone in the psychiatric community and pinnacle expert on the utilization of ketamine as a mental health therapy, Dr. LaValla understands firsthand through her practice how integrating new technologies, research, and best practices can alleviate even the most debilitating mental health struggles. She continuously creates opportunities to shape and guide policies and practices to help individuals, family members, and caregivers for those with mental health concerns.

Dr. LaValla’s dedication to helping those touched by mental health concerns is undeniable. Prior to her current practice, she worked with children, adolescents, and adults with mental health needs where she focused on improving functioning. In addition to her current clinical practice, Dr. LaValla frequently presents, including on an international stage, has published, is a member of several advisory boards, and serves as a clinical supervisor, educator, and consultant.

Dr. Paul Colligan has a passion for lifelong learning and self-improvement. While acquiring his various degrees, Dr. Colligan attended four Universities, and his educational experience culminated in a Doctorate from the University of Minnesota in anesthesia. Dr. Colligan has a broad background in professional anesthesia service, with experience in pediatric bone marrow transplant, neonate/pediatric intensive care, and hospice/palliative care through his business “West-Pacific anesthesia.” His expertise in anesthesia business, love of education, and his knack for teaching and engaging with students and patients to optimize their experience makes him a sought-after provider, consultant, and teacher.

The strongest expression of Dr. Colligan’s entrepreneurial spirit is his ability to identify high needs. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Colligan took his experience and expertise to work at New York City hospitals, managing highly complex and high stress crisis environments. His experience in New York illustrated how out of the box thinking, specialized knowledge, and a spirit of service could solve complex problems. He has utilized his forward thinking experience and 6 Sigma ability to address another extremely high need area in healthcare and apply it to the mental health specialty.

Dr. Colligan has been a national ketamine educator and consultant helping increase access to care to a very underserved mental health population utilizing ketamine therapy. He frequently speaks and teaches nationally at major seminars and through an online platform for other ketamine providers across the country. Providing this guidance to fledgling and experienced providers alike allows the increased chance that more people will have access to this kind of highly effective therapy. Additionally, he has opened, operated, and helps manage multiple clinics across the country, including Minnesota, completing thousands of infusions

Sion Owen has always had an interest in improving efficiencies through technology and applying it to complex systems. This interest developed into a passion while attending St. Cloud State University and later during his early career as a software developer and project manager in the technology sector.

Forward thinking and with an eye towards cutting edge technology, he applied his knowledge of economics and efficiencies professionally to various sectors including businesses involved in economics, real estate, and healthcare. As he acquired a proficient skill set in these areas of business, Sion has also developed software for companies that have helped cost savings in the millions. With six years of experience consulting with healthcare companies, Sion examines the complexities of business and seeks to help companies understand how to revolutionize with the help of technology.

With Sion’s background in business and computer technology, his entrepreneurial spirit drove him to transition his success to tackle extremely complex areas of healthcare: mental health and access to care. Sion has taken this challenge to increase access to care in an area with an extremely underserved patient population.

In looking at ketamine therapy as a cutting edge and extremely successful treatment for mental health, Sion saw the need for this treatment and wanted to bring it to the rural areas of Minnesota. Spearheading a non-traditional and sometimes alternative approach, Sion sought to create a team of experts in the local and national level to collaborate bringing this therapy to patients in Saint Cloud. As COO of Aurora, Sion seeks to knock down the roadblocks that prevent patients from getting care.

Michael Singh embodies what it means to take a patient centric approach to a medical practice. He started his medical career in nursing where caregiving was a primary focus. Mike excelled in his practice and studies and was drawn to the competitive anesthesia specialty. He was especially drawn to the notion that he might be able to take away someone’s pain. In 2007, Mike graduated from the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia with a Masters in Nurse anesthesia.

After a decade of working to serve his communities, Michael purchased Certified Anesthesia Care Inc. From day one, Mike has had a vision for Certified: a people-centered company that is known for excellent provision of care, unparalleled service to facilities, and responsible growth. Today, Certified is one of the premier anesthesia companies that provides services in both metro and rural territories to a very broad, diverse patient population.

As the CEO of Certified, Michael maintains operations at over 40 facilities with over 100 anesthesia providers. His primary focuses are efficiency, transparency, and professional cohesiveness. Michael’s goal is to continue to be motivated by his passion to help others.

The combination of patient centric care, an intense focus on education, and a thorough understanding of the business of medicine ultimately put Michael Singh in the position to help a new modality of patients in the mental health field. Michael is dedicated to improve access to care through a comprehensive approach with both anesthesia and mental health delivered by Aurora Mental Health and Wellness.

Juli Black, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Juli Black, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC, is a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides treatment to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties across the lifespan. She is board-certified by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) and provides holistic psychiatric treatment to clients in both Illinois and Minnesota.

Juli graduated from Maryville University with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track (PMHNP). She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, as well as an Associate of Science degree with concentrations in both Nursing and Psychology. With 14 years of experience in nursing, Juli has been an ANCC board-certified psychiatric registered nurse for 10 of those years and a PMHNP since January 2022.

As a dedicated PMHNP, Juli provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning/implementation, and treatment evaluation for clients experiencing mental health difficulties. She offers psychopharmaceutical prescription medication management, counseling, education, and coordination of care for those with complex mental health challenges and comorbidities.

Prior to her current role, Juli worked at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System as an RN Mental Health Treatment Coordinator for five years, where she specialized in coordinating care for veterans with serious and persistent mental health diagnoses. She focused on implementing the Recovery Model with veterans to help facilitate the process of change. Juli’s experience spans across acute mental health challenges, including expertise in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, treatment-resistant depression, crisis management, substance use issues, and complex comorbidities.

Juli is an advocate for individuals coping with mental illness. She has witnessed the strength of those working toward recovery from the most complex psychiatric problems. Thus, Juli strongly believes in the strength of the human spirit while rejecting the notion that people are defined by their mental health challenges. She strives to motivate and inspire individuals to reach their full potential and lead a self-directed life. Juli is passionate about providing cutting-edge treatments, such as ketamine therapy, to those suffering from complex mental health issues.

Alecsis Zimmer

Alecsis Zimmer MS, LPCC

Professional Clinical Counselor

Alecsis is a licensed professional clinical counselor that sees clients in both Minnesota and North Dakota. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at North Dakota State University. With a passion for mental health, Alecsis then pursued a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Minnesota State University. Driving to lead in the field of mental health, Alecsis brings a vast skillset to help clients throughout the family lifespan with an approach to reach all aspects of life. In providing therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing a wide variety of mental health symptoms, it allows her to reach and serve a diverse demographic.

Alecsis is trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and has been implementing this technique to clients for years. As a certified clinical trauma professional, she utilizes Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Adaptive Relational Network Model (AIR) to help treat trauma. She also uses other techniques from various therapeutic approaches to help meet the needs of her clients that include depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder and personality disorders.

Jordan holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Minnesota State University and is professionally licensed in the states of Minnesota and North Dakota. Jordan’s dedication in providing care among a diverse client population has given him exceptional opportunities that have built his approach with a knowledgeable, well-rounded, and unique perspective. Working in residential foster care, community support groups, and community mental health has cultivated his professional techniques when working with clients.

With a very individualized focus, Jordan works diligently to meet people where they are at and make sure they feel as comfortable as possible in therapy. Having an eclectic approach, he is able to meld the best of many therapy options and theories to meet the needs of the individual.
